Hi there, welcome to my blog. I work in a tech company in the Silicon Valley as an Analytics manager. I started this blog to share my journey to financial freedom, hoping to be able to leave my job for good in 2.5 years before I turn 35. Ever since I turned 30 couple years ago, I’ve come to realize working at an office job for the next few decades is just not my calling. I have every intention to walk away from the rat race and spend life with people and on things I care about.
At the onset of the Great Recession, I graduated from college in 2007 with degrees in math and statistics. Since then I’ve worked at many companies across multiple industries, settling in the Tech sector the last eight years. I was laid off in my first job at the height of the recession, and that taught me everyone is expendable at a job as long as you are just an employee.
Luckily it didn’t take me long to find my next job. In the next few years I saved rigorously and was able to purchase my first property in 2010 near the bottom of the real estate market. I’ve called that home until 2017 when I purchased another property that’s closer to work. Today, my parents live in this first property but I continue to pay mortgage, property tax, insurance, and utility bills.
I’ve always believed in the power of real estate, particularly if someone else is paying for my mortgage, then I get to reap the benefit of appreciation and have a house paid off which seems fantastic. Via this belief, I purchased an investment property in 2013 before the crazy price appreciation that ensue in the next few years.
In 2017, with luck I was able to purchase another property at a discount that’s closer to work. I rented part of the property out that covers most of my mortgage payments. Since then, the property has appreciated nicely and I continue to believe that real estate investing is a great way to generate wealth.
I’m fortunate to have accidentally built up assets that get me closer to financial freedom, but there’s still a long way to go. In the next couple years, I will document the journey to building passive income, tracking financial net worth, and sharing tips and tricks that accelerate my progress to infinite sabbatical!
